AROUND WIND RIVER VIEW

TO THE NORTH

 

The surrounding areas are bustling with activities for the avid outdoors person! There is excellent fishing in the North Fork River which winds right behind our campground.

 

11 miles north is the cute town of Pinedale where you can fuel up, go grocery shopping, search for souvenirs, get caffeinated at Pine Coffee Co. or grab a burger and hand crafted beer at Wind River Brewery. The annual Green River Rendezvous celebration takes place every summer the second weekend in July. It relives the early Mountain Man history of the area. During Rendezvous, the town of Pinedale comes alive with activities and events surrounding the Mountain Man theme.

A few miles outside of Pinedale is the stunning Fremont Lake, the deepest fresh water lake in Wyoming. It sits right at the base of the Wind River Mountain Range with a walking/skiing path winding around. Get your fishing, hiking, sightseeing or photography on at other nearby lakes such as Boulder Lake, Meadow Lake, Burnt Lake, Half Moon Lake, Soda Lake, Willow Lake, New Fork Lake plus more!

Get a thrill from mountain biking the miles of trails in the Wind Rivers, hike and pick wild flowers, go kayaking on the lakes.

55 miles north is the relaxing, beautiful Gros Ventre Mountain Range and Granite Hot Springs. Soak in the healing hot springs pool that average 95 degrees in the summer and 112 degrees in the winter.

Several river rafting companies offer fun and excitement on the Hoback River and Snake River outside of Jackson Hole.

 

78 miles north is picturesque Jackson Hole which attracts travelers from around the world every year. The Teton Mountains surround Jackson Hole as well as many species of large animals such as buffalo, moose, mule deer and antelope.

Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park are some of the most popular attractions in the world, drawing in millions of people every year to witness Old Faithful geyser, many wild animals in their natural habitat and the steaming, colorful hot springs that are heated by geothermic activity underground. Located 123 miles north or approximately a 2 hour drive.

TO THE SOUTH

​

40 miles south of campground is the small town of Farson. The Farson Mercantile offers the largest, most delicious ice cream cone for the an amazingly low price.

​

Stop along south Hwy 191 to get amazing pictures of the wild horses are scattered throughout the desert.

​

 80 miles south are the White Mountain Petroglyphs. Hundreds of carved figures dot the sandstone cliffs at the White Mountain Petroglyphs site in Wyoming’s Red Desert north of Rock Springs. Etched into the sandstone bedrock of the Ecocene Bridger formation some 1,000 to 200 years ago, several figures appear to portray bison and elk hunts while others depict geometric forms or tiny footprints. Handprints are scooped into the rock as well, providing visitors with a compelling connection to those who used the site long ago.

100 miles south is the town of Rock Springs. Truly a wild west town, Rock Springs hosts various rodeos throughout the summer, fairs, shopping, many restaurants and parks.
